Eko Hot Blog reports that the House of Representatives has called for a thorough investigation into the frequent killings and destruction of property in different communities of Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
This resolution follows the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance brought to the House floor on Tuesday by Rep. Hassan Shinkafi of Zamfara State.
Shinkafi said the affected communities lost many shops, houses, motorcycles, foodstuffs and two police officers worth hundreds of millions of naira in the latest attack, which came as citizens battle economic hardship.
The House urged the Inspector-General of Police to set up a tactical team to uncover the mystery behind the incessant attacks and report back in two weeks.
It also urged the National Emergency Management Agency to urgently provide relief materials to affected persons.
Additionally, the House called on the federal government to deploy more military personnel to prevent further occurrences.
The resolution comes after Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal in February launched a 2,969-man State Community Protection Guard to tackle insecurity. Lawal charged the guards to discharge their duties diligently to end banditry in the state.
