EKO HOT BLOG reports that this move followed a motion of urgent public importance raised by Hon. Adewale Adebayo, a lawmaker representing Osun State, during plenary on Thursday.
The UTME, overseen annually by JAMB, serves as a crucial benchmark for admission into Nigeria’s tertiary institutions, including universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. Over the years, the examination format has evolved into a computer-based testing (CBT) model aimed at curbing malpractice and enhancing efficiency.
However, the 2025 edition of the exam has drawn public outrage over widespread technical glitches. Candidates across various centres reported issues such as network disruptions, login failures, and system errors that either delayed or disrupted their performance.
Worried by these reports and the potential impact on students’ academic futures, the lawmakers resolved to initiate a full-scale inquiry. The House is expected to scrutinize the infrastructure and processes deployed by JAMB, assess the scope of the malfunction, and recommend long-term solutions.
Speaking on the floor, Hon. Adebayo stressed the need to uphold the integrity of the examination process and ensure that no student is unfairly disadvantaged. “This is not just about technical faults; it’s about safeguarding the academic future of thousands of young Nigerians,” he said.
The investigation will also explore ways to strengthen the resilience of the CBT system and establish accountability for any lapses. The House maintained that such a probe is necessary to restore public confidence in the UTME system and protect the credibility of Nigeria’s educational assessment framework.
JAMB is yet to issue an official response regarding the House resolution, but it has previously acknowledged technical errors affecting candidates from Lagos and South-East states, with plans already underway for a rescheduled exam for those affected.
