Residents Cry Out For Renovation Of Dilapidated Pedestrian Bridge
The residents of Igbokushu town and Ilasan Jakande Housing Estate have pleaded the State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwolu, to come to their aid in renovating the dilapidated pedestrian bridge that connects the two towns together.
The Chairman of the Community Development Association (CDA) of the estate, Mr Kazeem Sulaiman, said some governmental agencies had visited the bridge several times in the past before the advent of COVID-19, noting that the lockdown order might have affected their next step of action. He added, however, that if an emergency visit could be arranged it would relief people from imminent distress.
“We are begging the state government to do something fast in order to avoid any unwanted happenings or calamity,” he said.

A trader, Mrs. Sarah Aron, said the state of the pedestrian bridge has always made its users, especially the old women, to walk down to other pedestrian bridge at Gbara bus stop before they can cross over to board buses going to Obalende or CMS and other areas of those routes. “We couldn’t use it anymore because we were afraid that it could collapse at anytime,” she said.
A resident of Igbokushu town, Nureini Talabi, said that official representatives of the two towns should explain the problem to the local government as he thought the information about it would be easily taken up to the state by the local government. He said, “I just pray that it doesn’t befall anyone whenever it wants to collapse because people are still walking on it despite its bad state.”
