Residents Flee As Soldiers Storm Enugu Community Over Murder Of Security Operatives

  • Scores of residents of Enugu community have fled their homes following an operation by soldiers on Friday.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that residents of the Akpawfu community in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State have fled their homes following an operation by the operatives of the Nigerian Army and other security forces.

Recall that unknown gunmen, on Wednesday evening, killed some policemen at the Amaechi axis of Enugu South Local Government Area.

A source at the Akpawfu community had disclosed that the gunmen killed the security operatives at the police checkpoints in the area.

However, a resident of the community disclosed on Friday that soldiers stormed Akpawfu in the early hours of the morning, and arrested scores of youths.

“This must have informed the belief by the military that the gunmen were camped in Akpawfu,” the resident said.

EKO HOT BLOG further gathered that the soldiers stormed the Enugu community in four armoured vehicles and other operational vehicles situated in strategic places within the community.

“As I’m talking to you, all young men in the community and even women have fled the community as the soldiers claimed that those houses being searched were used as camping grounds by the gunmen.

“For me, I don’t know if that is true. What I know is that the gunmen drove past our community towards Abakaliki.

“Our youths are running away to other towns because we know that the army will see the youths here as targets,” a village source, who spoke on condition of anonymity said.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army had yet to react to the incident as of the time of filing this report.
