Residents Flee Ogun Community Over Fear Of Suspected Fulani Herdsmen Attack
- “They killed some cows and because of that, they are being apprehensive over a possible attack.”
EKO HOT BLOG reports that scores of residents of Olokemeji-Olowo in Odede Local Government Area of Ogun State have fled the community over the fear of being attacked by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
It would be recalled that the lawmaker representing Odeda Constituency at the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, had on Monday cried out over the killing of one of his constituents by the suspected Fulani herdsmen.
It was gathered that trouble started last weekend when the village vigilantes captured a suspected kidnapper and held him down.
The suspect, who was said to be a Fulani, pleaded to be allowed to contact his leaders on phone.
It was learnt that after the call, his leaders reportedly stormed the village and shot dead one vigilante while rescuing their errand boy.
Infuriated by the attack, the locals, it was gathered, had applied some harmful substances on their farms, and this led to the death of many cows belonging to the Fulanis.
As they envisaged possible attack from the herdsmen, it was learnt that the locals deserted their homes in Olokemeji-Olowo, a border town between Ogun and Oyo States.

But, the Caretaker Chairman of Odeda Local Government, Bola Lawal, said the leaders of the Fulani herdsmen in the state have been told to talk to their people both in Ogun and Oyo States.
According to Daily Post, Lawal stated that meetings had been held with stakeholders, including security agencies, to forestall any attack, adding that the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, had also been briefed.
Confirming the incident, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the situation is under control.
Oyeyemi stated that the command had deployed its men to the community for the safety of lives and property.
“The people are just being apprehensive. In fact, police are there every day and there were meetings between the residents, the Fulanis, and police. The police are there every day to maintain law and order.
“They killed some cows and because of that, they are being apprehensive over a possible attack,” the police spokesperson stated.
