The People of Jakande Housing Estate, Eti-Osa, have pleaded the Lagos State Government for urgent intervention over the needs of proper drainages and good roads within the Estate.

The residents of the Estate are the evictees of the demolished town called ‘Maroko’ in 1990 during the regime of General Ibrahim Badamosi Babaginda as the Head of State of the nation while Colonel Raji Rasak was the Governor of Lagos State.

After the eviction, the evictees were taken to Jakande Housing Estate built by Alhaji Jakande in Eti-Osa during his tenure as the Civilian Governor of Lagos State.

However, the topography of the land suddenly changed in 2011 when the residents experienced the first flood which took all the downstairs away from the occupants.

Our reporter who visited the vicinity, yesterday, 28th April 2020 observed that some residents wore rain boots to get food, and others domesticated the grocery shop. Those who went to the shopping mall outside the estate could not take their cars out because of the stagnant water from the recent rainfall which has occupied every nook and cranny of the Estate.

While still inspecting other areas of attention, a well-known resident, Mr. Taiwo Ajadi, put a call through to bring the attention of the leader of the council, Hon. Muftau Ogunderu, into the situation. In reply to the calls, Ogunderu said every menace will be tackled as early as possible before the rain starts in its full capacity.

Complimenting the effort of Mr. Kazeem Sulaiman the chairman of the Community Development Association (CDA), Hon. Mondiu Shade, the Chairman of the political party, All Progressive Congress Eti-Osa, said the CDA has assisted the community in the evacuation of debris that caused the stagnant water.
“We need the Governor’s intervention for the creation of proper drainages and good roads because the job is beyond the capacity of the Local Government Chairman,” he said.

Another resident, pastor Tunji Haruna, said the residents will be very happy if the Governor could grant them this special request.

The Chief Imam Central Mosque of the Estate, Alhaji Ahmad Maaruf Rosoffy, also appealed to the Governor to come to their aid.
“We have many problems that need to be solved but good roads and proper drainages are very essential now,” he said.
