Residents Of Lekki lament Electrical Power Outage

The residents of Ilasan Jakande Housing Estate, Lekki have cried out to the headquarters of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), Marina to instruct the lekki branch to bring back transformer 7, lamenting that they have been in a power outage in their area for past three months.

The residents of the area where transformer 7 had been serving, before it was taken away by some staff of EKEDC lekki branch, showed their grievances by holding up different placards with several unpleased inscriptions and told our reporter how the scenario started.

The chairman of the Community Development Association (CDA), of the estate, Mr. Sulaiman Kazeem, said he had been one of the users of the transformer before it was taken away on the 13th of February, 2020 with the intention to amend and replace some amount of transformer oil which was lost due to a leak and to also put its bad feeder panel in proper shape. He moved further to say that they had consulted the appropriate personnel at the EKEDC office many times for update before the advent of the COVID-19.

“We have been calling; asking them the condition of the transformer as we can’t go to their office due to the lockdown order by the federal government but no palatable response yet,” he said.

Another affected resident, Mr Abdul Fatahi Adegboyega, said everyone within the affected area was regular taxpayers, but since other parts of the estate have been enjoying themselves indoors during this period of lockdown with power supply, they have been in perpetual darkness.

“The government has ordered us to stay at home without the provisions of food and other necessary means for living. Won’t the government let us enjoy the staying at home with power supply,” he said.

A trader that has a shop in the concerned area, Mrs Iyabo Allen, said the power outage has affected her sale as everyone wanted to buy cold beverages.

“Government please provide us light because we are not demons that love darkness,” she said.
