Residents, Traders Lament The Imminent Effect Of Early Rainfall In Lagos
Residents and traders of Ilasan Jakande Housing Estate, Eti-Osa, on Monday, 25 May 2020, complained about the flood caused by heavy rainfall.
There was a heavy downpour in parts of Lagos that lasted about five hours, making some streets and roads become flooded
The rain started around 12:30 a.m at midnight and lasted Five hours which could not allow the Muslim residents to perform their morning right (Salat Subhi) as it still persisted around 5 a.m.
The traders who wanted to display their wares were surprised at the level of flood surrounding their shops.
Our reporter who visited parts of the Eti-Osa area observed that the flood was in almost every part of the local government except the areas like Osapa London, Gbara, and Ikate which their drainages were flowing freely.
Lamenting the effects of the rainfall, a resident, Mr. Sulaiman Adamson appealed to the government to construct proper drainages in the estate in order to spare them further sufferings.

He said the flood usually affected them negatively in the past because children would not be able to play as they could, adding that the government should intervene now before the seven-day rain starts.
Another resident, Ajarat Badmus, blamed the indiscriminate throwing of dirt into drainages as the main cause of the flood, saying that when the drainages could not move, it automatically moves to streets and roads.
“If the government can come to our aid as early as possible to assist the CDA, the imminent threat from a flood could be regulated,” she said.
