Following the flooding that ravaged Ikorodu communities over the weekend which is occassioned by days of heavy downpour, the Lagos State emergency management agency (LASEMA) has moved in to access the level of havoc wreaked by the flood and also take proactive steps to mitigate the future occurrence of such.
The agency’s intervention is sequel to a distress call concerning the incident at Obafatola Community, Ebute IGBOGBO Road, Ikorodu, on Sunday, 28th June 2020, and activated its Response Team, Lion Squad, to the scene of the incident.
Carrying out assessment of the incident, the response team who were accompanied by the CDA Officials to the scene, discovered that most parts of the community were flooded as the result of the heavy downpour.
The Post Disaster Assessment carried out by the agency revealed that;
There are a lot of barriers blocking the drainage channels in the affected areas which is the major cause of the flood.
No loss of live nor injury recorded but properties worth millions were destroyed.
By the same token, the Agency’s Lion Squad at Agbowa also responded to another flooding incident at Raman Shoderu Street, Powerline, off Ikorodu-Sagamu Road, Ikorodu.
Upon the arrival of the LRT at the incident scene, it was discovered that the neighbourhood was flooded as the result of the heavy downpour.
The results of the Post Disaster Assessment carried out by the agency revealed that;
Chief cause of the flooding is attributed to a lot of barriers blocking the drainage channels in the affected areas.
The dept of the road drainage needs to be expanded, if possible in two-layer to be able to contain the volume of the water in the neighbourhood

However, The DG/CEO LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu has implored residents to refrain from disposing refuse into drainages, canals, waterways and other bodies of water as the brunt will be bore citizens.
