A Lagos-born politician has revealed why only the standard bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) can be President of Nigeria.

He said Asiwaju Tinubu has paid enough dues to lead Nigeria in the forthcoming election.

Idris-Shonuga made this affirmation during a book launch in Lagos where he declared that Asiwaju Tinubu prevented Nigeria from being a one-party country.

At the book launch of Bola Ahmed Tinubu Youth Political Forum (BAT-YPF): 110 reasons why Senator Bola Tinubu should be president in 2023, the politician said APC’s candidate was the only one who resist President Olusegun Obasanjo-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration at turning Nigeria into a one-party system.

“That was when PDP wiped out all states in South, they fought everybody off but Asiwaju kept Lagos. It takes a strong character like Asiwaju to resist PDP at the time,” Idris-Shonuga said.

He added that no presidential candidate in the 2023 race can match the credence built by Tinubu during his time as Governor of Lagos State.

“Without Asiwaju, we would not have multiparty democracy today. He was one man standing. He has earned it. If you were wise enough in 2003 that was the turning point in Nigeria democracy,” he added.

The Lagos-based politician further stressed that if not for Tinubu, Nigeria would have been governed by one party as planned by Tinubu.

He said, “It was from Lagos that he stretched his hands over Niger for us to have APC today. Otherwise, Nigeria would have been a one-party state. It would have been only PDP today and no other party.”
