As hundreds of mourners attended the funeral of former Real Madrid and Arsenal star, Jose Antonio Reyes, on Monday, police have released a statement that the footballer drove at a speed limit reading 237 kilometre per hour before the crash.
The coffin of Reyes, killed in a weekend car crash, was draped in the flag of his boyhood club, Sevilla, was carried through the streets of his hometown of Utrera before the funeral service at a local church.
Local newspapers, Diario de Sevilla and Mundo Deportivo, Reyes was driving at over 200 kilometres (125 miles) per hour at the time of the accident, citing a police report. The crash also claimed the life of the footballer’s cousin while another passenger was still in the hospital yesterday, according to police.
