EKO HOT BLOG reports that Declan Rice has turned down a new deal at West Ham, putting Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea on red alert ahead of the summer transfer window.
The new deal is understood to have been worth around £200,000-a-week.
Had he signed fresh terms, Rice, 23, would have become the highest-paid player in the club’s history.
But it seems no amount of money can convince the England international to pen a new deal at the London Stadium at the current time.
According to the Guardian, Rice has no desire to extend his contract in east London. Despite the impasse, Rice is not the sort of character who will allow his professionalism to dip on the pitch as the Hammers chase Europa League glory.
Although West Ham have no intention of selling Rice, who is under contract until 2024, this latest news will set tongues wagging inside boardrooms among the Premier League’s elite.
Manchester United and Chelsea are both understood to be keen on Rice, although maybe not at the current price. Hammers boss David Moyes recently slapped a £150million price tag on the star’s head to ward off potential suitors.
£150 million just now would be the minimum, but he is not for sale,” Moyes said. “What I do know is that it means there are only certain clubs that could even consider it.”
United and Chelsea would ordinarily be among those clubs, but circumstances could hinder any potential move. The Red Devils are facing a major rebuilding job under new boss Erik ten Hag, with several areas of the squad in need of addressing.
Chelsea have a long-standing interest in Rice, having let him go from the club’s academy when he was a teenager.

But their current ownership situation could make a deal difficult, particularly one that requires a £150million outlay.
