Sunak, while expressing shock and fear at the news, reassured the public that the timely detection of the cancer is a positive factor.
“Thankfully, this was caught early,” Sunak stated during the radio interview on Tuesday.
The Prime Minister’s comments came after Buckingham Palace announced on Monday that King Charles III had been diagnosed with a form of cancer.
The revelation followed a hospital visit in London last month for a corrective procedure related to an enlarged prostate.
The statement from Buckingham Palace clarified that the cancer was identified as a separate concern during the recent hospital procedure.
While details about the specific type and stage of cancer were not disclosed, the palace emphasized that it is not prostate cancer.
“During the King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer,” the palace stated.
Following the diagnosis, King Charles III commenced treatment on Monday, leading to the suspension of his public engagements.
Other members of the royal family, including Queen Camilla and Prince William, are expected to assume his responsibilities during this period.
The palace reassured the public that, despite the treatment, King Charles III is anticipated to “continue to undertake state business and official paperwork as usual.”
Sunak conveyed his commitment to maintain regular communication with King Charles III. “I will continue to communicate with [Charles] as normal,” Sunak affirmed, adding, “we’ll crack on with everything.”

The diagnosis comes less than a year after King Charles III’s coronation in May 2023, succeeding his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away in September 2022 at the age of 96.
The revelation of the cancer diagnosis has prompted an outpouring of support and concern for the monarch’s health across the United Kingdom.
