Rivers APC Criticises Fubara for Donating Vehicles Instead of Addressing Food Shortages

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s donation of 100 vehicles to the State Police Command, calling it a “gross misplacement of priority.”

The APC argues that this action is out of touch with the current economic realities and the pressing needs of the residents.

In a statement signed by Tony Okocha, Chairman of the APC’s Caretaker Committee in Rivers State, the party expressed outrage over what they perceive as a misplaced priority, especially given the severe hunger experienced by many in the state.

Okocha pointed out that while other state governors are investing in projects to alleviate hunger and support food security, Fubara’s focus on providing vehicles to the police seems disconnected from these urgent needs.

He stressed that governors in states like Niger, Akwa Ibom, Taraba, and Lagos are actively supporting farmers with tractors and farm implements and distributing food to those in need.

Okocha’s statement read in part: “It is absurd that Governor Fubara would prioritize vehicle donations to the police while our people are suffering from hunger. In other states, governors are giving tractors and farm tools to enhance agricultural production and providing food items to alleviate hunger.”

EKO HOT BLOG reports that he further criticised the donation, describing the vehicles as “confirmed 7th hand rickety vehicles” and questioned the relevance of this donation to the hunger crisis in Rivers State.

“What is the connection between police vehicles and empty stomachs?” Okocha asked.

Okocha also questioned whether the Police Command had been removed from the Exclusive List, which designates the Federal Government as responsible for its funding, management, and recruitment.
