Rivers Crisis: Court Stops IG From Arresting NYCN Chair, Others
EKO HOT BLOG reports that a High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has granted an order of interim injunction restraining the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, from arresting the state Chairman of National Youth Council of Nigeria, Chijioke Ihunwo, and two others.
Also restrained by the order are Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, their subordinates agents, provides, proxies and representatives.

The court presided over by Justice G.O Ollor in an experte application filed by the applicants’ counsel, Damian Okoro, restrained the defendants from taking further steps in arresting, whisking away, detaining or infringing of the fundamental rights of the applicants pending the determination of the Originating applications.
Justice Ollor also granted leave to Chijioke Ihunwo, Happy Bennett and Jinjiri Bala to serve the Originating Processes and all other subsequent processes in the suit on the first and second defendants through the office of the charge of Legal, Rivers State Criminal Investigation Department Port Harcourt.
The trial judge, while also granting leave for the third defendant, Martin Amaewhule, to be served through substituted means by pasting it at State House of Assembly Legislative Quarters off Aba road, adjourned till 28th of February, 2024 for hearing on the Originating motion/ Application.

In a related development, Justice C.N Wali of a Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has granted an order of interim injunction restraining the Nigerian Police and Martin Amaewhule from arresting Chibuike Peter, Adokiye Ouagiri and Progress Joseph.
