Rivers Pledges N80m To Slain Policemen, Soldiers’ Family
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has announced N20m each as compensation to families of policemen and soldiers killed by members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra in the Oyigbo area of the state.
Recall that the Rivers State Police Command recovered the bodies of three policemen and one soldier after the crisis.
The governor also promised to rebuild all burnt police stations in Oyigbo, vowing to ensure that IPOB no longer existed in Rivers State.
Wike stated this during a condolence visit to the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan, and families of the slain policemen at the state police command on Wednesday.
Wike, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Kelvin Ebiri, said the government would support the police to make sure that all IPOB members, who masterminded the killings, as well as the wanton destruction of police stations in Oyigbo, were apprehended and made to face the full wrath of the law.
“Enough is enough. You cannot continue to kill our policemen who have not done anything; who have not committed any crime,” Wike stated.
The CP described the governor’s action as a demonstration that he (Wike) was a compassionate father of the state.
