Rivers Police Nab Cab Driver for Robbing Female Passengers at Knifepoint

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 44-year-old cab driver, Andrew Nwanna, for allegedly robbing female passengers in Port Harcourt.
Police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko revealed that Nwanna used a vehicle with a customized number plate to commit the crimes. His arrest follows numerous complaints from victims reporting similar attacks.
Iringe-Koko detailed two incidents involving Nwanna. On October 4, he reportedly robbed a female passenger near Port Harcourt Primary School in the Old GRA area.

“He diverted the trip from Stadium Road to the Old GRA, attacked the passenger, and forcibly took her two phones,” she said.
On October 10, Nwanna allegedly targeted another victim after picking her up at Tombia Extension, GRA Phase 2. The journey was supposed to end at Birabi Street but took a violent turn. “The suspect stopped near Skippers Restaurant, brandished a knife, and threatened to stab the passenger if she raised alarm,” Iringe-Koko recounted.
Nwanna reportedly stole an iPhone 13 worth ₦850,000, an iPhone 15 valued at ₦1.7 million, a Redmi 120 phone costing ₦200,000, AirPods worth ₦350,000, an Access Bank debit card, a Bible, $200 in cash, and left the victim stranded.

Following a report by one of his victims, police apprehended Nwanna on Farm Road, Rumuosi, Obio/Akpor. During interrogation, he confessed to his crimes and implicated a 38-year-old Bureau de Change operator, Garba Adamu, as an accomplice. Adamu has also been arrested and admitted to purchasing stolen phones from Nwanna.
The police confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and both suspects will face charges in court.
Iringe-Koko advised the public to exercise caution when using commercial transport services and promptly report suspicious behavior to the authorities.
