According to Peterside, the attackers “tried to steal my car”. He said his daughters prevented the car theft, as one of the thieves who was unaware of the girls’ presence inside the vehicle “slapped him”, thereby causing the hoodlum to flee.
“Today, thieves tried to steal my car. I came down from the car and went into the shop. A guy came with another car and opened my car not realising my two daughters were at the back because of the tinted glasses. When he opened to get in, my daughter slapped him he was shocked to find another one in the car. He jumped down and ran into the waiting car. Help me to thank God for the safety of my family which is more important,” Peterside wrote on his known Facebook page, with an accompanying picture of his vehicle.
The preacher is a former Nigerian international football goalkeeper and erstwhile media officer of the Super Eagles.
Among his former clubs are Enyimba football club of Aba and Moroka Swallows of South Africa.
He retired from active football in 2002.
