Robbery: MKO Abiola’s Children Released After 2 Weeks In Detention
- Renowed Lawyer, Mike Ozekhome secured the release of Kassim and Aliyu, sons of the late winner of the June 12, 1993 election, Moshood Abiola.
- The two men were arrested after suspected robbers invaded their father’s Lagos residence on Wednesday, September 2nd, 2020 carting away valuables.
- They were charged to Magistrate Court 1, Ogba, for conspiracy, burglary, stealing and other related offences.
Kassim and Aliyu, sons of Moshood Abiola have been released from police net after spending nearly two weeks.
The children of the late winner of the June 12, 1993 election, were arrested on September 2 over a robbery in their father’s Lagos residence.
The gunmen who invaded the late politician’s home, carted away some naira notes and other valuables.
Inspite of the law that forbids detention of suspects for more than 48 hours, the duo were remanded at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Ikeja for days.
Asides from the two men, a personal assistant, gardener and laundryman were also charged to Magistrate Court 1, Ogba, for conspiracy, burglary, stealing and other related offences.
Their step-mum, Adebisi Abiola who lodged the complaint said they were arrested for their unruly acts to the police officers during interrogation.
However the sons interpreted the arrest as infringement on their fundamental human rights.
They stormed a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja, demanding 100 million as compensation.
On Tuesday afternoon, Lola Abiola-Edewor, first daughter of the late businessman approached the premises of Nigeria Police Force.
She signed an undertaken with the police seeking the release on bail of her two brothers and their internal members of staff.
Renowned Lawyer, Mike Ozekhome who had been on the case confirmed that all suspects were released at about 3:00pm.
