Roberto Mancini Sacked As Saudi Head Coach After 14-Month

Roberto Mancini has been dismissed as head coach of Saudi Arabia’s national team after a challenging 14-month tenure marked by underwhelming results and growing tensions with fans.

The Italian manager, who joined last August on a lucrative four-year deal reportedly worth £21 million annually, departs with only seven wins from 18 matches.

The Saudi Arabian Football Federation announced that the decision to part ways was reached by “joint agreement,” ending weeks of speculation surrounding his future following disappointing performances.

In a statement, the federation thanked Mancini for his contributions and extended its best wishes for his future career.

Mancini’s appointment initially sparked high expectations, given his previous success in leading Italy to the 2021 European Championship title.

However, recent struggles—highlighted by a goalless draw against Bahrain where he exchanged heated words with frustrated fans—brought mounting pressure.

Amid these challenges, Mancini voiced concerns over the Saudi Pro League’s emphasis on foreign players, arguing that it was hindering the development of local talent.

The Saudi Football Federation is expected to move quickly to appoint a new coach who can drive a renewed focus on World Cup aspirations and bolster the team’s performance on the international stage.
