EKO HOT BLOG reports that former Manchester United forward Rod Thornley has named Cristiano Ronaldo as the best player he saw during his time at the club. Thornley praised Ronaldo for his outstanding talent and mentality to be the best.
Thornley made the remarks during an appearance on the Four Four 2 podcast, where he was asked about the best player he ever saw at Manchester United.
He said:
“I have to throw Cristiano [Ronaldo] in there. He had five or six years where he just terrorized defenses and won games on his own. An outstanding talent. You knew he was going to go on and be what he was because he just had that mentality of being, ‘I want to be the best.'”
Thornley added that Ronaldo used to tell everyone, “I am going to be the best.” He described the Portuguese forward as “unbelievable.”
Ronaldo played for Manchester United from 2003 to 2009, during which time he won three Premier League titles, one Champions League trophy, and one FA Cup. He scored 118 goals in 292 appearances for the club and was named the Premier League Player of the Season twice.
Last year, Ronaldo left Manchester United for Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr after an explosive interview with journalist Piers Morgan. However, he has continued to be regarded as one of the greatest players in the club’s history.
Currently, Ronaldo is on international duty with the Portugal national team, as they prepare for the upcoming 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
