Rosemary Oromoni, Mother of Dowen College Victim Sylvester Oromoni is Dead
In April, a Lagos State Coroner’s Court in Ogba ruled that Sylvester’s death resulted from medical negligence by his parents and doctor. The Coroner, Magistrate Mikhail Kadiri, concluded that the boy died from complications related to an enlarged liver due to inadequate treatment.
Sylvester died on November 30, 2021. His death was initially linked to bullying and allegations that he was forced to consume a toxic substance by five senior students at Dowen College: Favour Benjamin, Edward Begue, Ansel Temile, Kenneth Inyang, and Michael Kashamu, son of the late Senator Buruji Kashamu.
However, on January 5, 2022, the Lagos State Government cleared the five students and staff of any wrongdoing.
In his ruling, Magistrate Kadiri stated:
“Based on the evidence, the deceased’s health deteriorated while in his parents’ care. The negligence of his caregivers, including a failure to seek timely medical attention, contributed significantly to his death.”
Kadiri emphasized that Sylvester’s death was avoidable and highlighted the prolonged pain and suffering he endured due to delayed medical intervention.
