Eko Hot Blog reports that the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Tunji Alausa, recently concluded a three-day tour of various medical facilities across Lagos State.
The tour spanned Wednesday, October 25, 2023, to Friday, October 27, 2023.
The multiple visits to the medical facilities were aimed at the minister familiarizing himself with the conditions of these facilities, addressing their challenges, and charting a course for their revitalization, ensuring world-class operations.
The tour kicked off with an enlightening visit to the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) and the esteemed Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Yaba.
The first day of the tour also included a significant stop at the office of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, demonstrating a collaborative approach to healthcare enhancements.
On the second day, Dr. Alausa returned to his alma mater, the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, where he once walked the same halls as today’s aspiring medical professionals.
He continued his tour to the Federal Medical Center (FMC) in Ebute Metta.
Guided by Dr. Dada Adedamola, the facility’s Medical Director, the minister meticulously explored the vast medical infrastructure. In addition to this, a closed-door meeting with the Director-General of NAFDAC was a significant highlight of the day.
The third and final day of the tour was equally momentous. Dr. Alausa revisited the National Orthopaedic Hospital Igbobi, a place where he had once worked and served as a board chairman.
He received a warm welcome and honorary acknowledgments, testament to his contributions to the hospital.
Subsequently, he proceeded to the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Oshodi, where Dr. O.A. Owoeye provided insights into their operations and articulated their requests for assistance.
At each medical facility, the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) were meticulously discussed.
The health minister exhibited a keen understanding of the challenges presented, offering valuable insights on how to overcome them.
He assured all present that he and the coordinating Minister, Dr. Ali Pate, are dedicated to transforming Nigeria’s healthcare sector into a world-class service, aligning with the eight-point agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The three-day tour exemplified the federal government’s unwavering dedication to enhancing healthcare services and the well-being of its citizens. It marked the beginning of a transformative journey toward a brighter future for the healthcare sector in Lagos and the entire nation.
