Roy Okhidievbie Raises Alarm Over Insecurity As Coronavirus Lockdown Lingers
Security Expert, Roy Okhidievbie has raised alarm over the rising insecurity across the country as the ongoing coronavirus lockdown continues.
In a recently-held interview with Arise News, Okhidievbie highlighted how challenging it is to manage miscreants in the country, saying they have godfathers who come to their rescue anytime they are arrested.
He said “This are very dark times for us and its quite very painful. Look at those that have been arrested you see they’re quickly released somebody said of record that the top security agent did tell him that when you meet these boys fight them and deal with them because if we arrest them..their godfathers would come and release them and bail them out.”
“When I was at obalende the other barrack and still in the army and then the member of operation sweep then and most times when we arrest miscreants they will be begging you to hand them over to the police… And we will be wondering that if we hand you over to the police they will take you to court you will go to jail and they will be laughing and say oga which jail…take us to the police… And I don’t blame the police because at the end of the day who determines who is an IG in Nigeria …who determines who is a commissioner of police who determines which police officer is posted for international program and training.. Who determines it…all these politicians have taken over the agencies they have to demolish the structures in the agencies”.

The hierarchy control and command has been demolished so what you have now is whatever a political big wek can not stand …so every politician is trying to look for a gang and an army of youth they can call and they destabilize any political campaign or procession every politician is looking for these area boys that they will mobster and become their army…….and when they are in political parties they speak with that power that they can control”.
“So its a pity…this is where we’ve found ourselves when are we going to look back and say can we digress from in regularities, criminalities and follow status cope because right now nobody is traveling abroad for medical treatment nor holiday …nobody is traveling out when there is main hem and crisis …we are all here to face it…they would jump over your fence and come and meet you in your house…so who is going to bear the count?.who is going to come out and say is time we put things right”?
On how the Nigerian police can further have an effective community base relationship to curb criminal activities especially during crisis Roy said;
“In every crisis there is an opportunity I see the police and the agencies and the government missing out of the very key opportunity called data system in this situation that we are now is the time to go and meet the area boys and say in want to see all of you, write your name down write your bvn number and your account number..if its 2or 5 thousand you want to send to them..you already have a database…..you already have someone to talk to in all this fake news that’s flying up and down yet the people are right to escalate their fears every body is in their home they hear gun shot right,left and center they are calling the media the DPO the DPO is fatigue with calls and he doesn’t even know what to do..he has no button to play ..to give him the data sequence intelligence to follow through to know which area he has no contact persons he has no mole within the area boys cling the awawa boys the 1million boys none…so all his doing is working on ….people are working on the escalated height of crisis”.
So I will advise that every policing system must have a target audience they must hold to bail on estate house communities they have chairmen ..every street you see with a gate right now they have a committee, security committee, every mechanic that you see they have an association…carpenters, uber drivers, taxi drivers they all have an association…the police is supposed to have contact persons and numbers from all of these..so if you have an escalation that there is fighting at Ikeja you’re not suppose to say it’s fake news”.
“It’s your duty to find out where that fear is coming from if it’s from mushin and not Ikeja find your way to mushin and show us that the whole town in your hands..as police officers you’re supposed to have disintegrated into the whole societies”.
He further urged the government to work hand in hand with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to curb the on going crisis
