EKO HOT BLOG reports that Sam Allardyce, a former manager of Bolton Wanderers, has admitted he once thought Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah was “rubbish”. Speaking to Not Tippy Tappy Football, Allardyce revealed that he did not rate the Egyptian when he first arrived in English football.
Salah joined Chelsea from FC Basel in 2014 but struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge, only managing to play 13 games in Chelsea’s colours, scoring two goals and providing as many assists. He subsequently left Chelsea in 2016 after two loan spells in Serie A.
However, since returning to the Premier League with Liverpool in 2017, Salah has been a revelation. The 30-year-old has been instrumental in the Reds’ recent success, helping them win the Premier League, Champions League, and Club World Cup.
Allardyce, who managed several Premier League clubs including West Bromwich Albion and Everton, praised Salah’s ability and said that he has now become a top player. He said, “We talk about Mo Salah and what a player he is. He was absolutely rubbish at Chelsea and they got rid of him because he couldn’t score a goal.”
Salah has since become one of the best players in the world, with numerous awards and accolades to his name. He has scored over 130 goals for Liverpool and helped them to the top of the Premier League table this season.
