Russia announced on Sunday that its forces had taken control of two villages in eastern Ukraine as part of its ongoing military campaign.
The Russian defense ministry stated on Telegram that its troops had seized Lozova in Kharkiv and Krasnoye, known in Ukraine as Sontsivka. Krasnoye lies near Kurakhove, a key resource area that Russia is close to encircling as it pushes to gain full control of the Donetsk region.
Russia has been advancing rapidly in eastern Ukraine, aiming to claim more territory before U.S. President-elect Donald Trump takes office in January. Trump has pledged to resolve the nearly three-year conflict quickly but has not shared specific plans for a ceasefire or peace agreement.
Moscow’s forces claim to have captured over 190 Ukrainian settlements this year. Meanwhile, Kyiv is struggling to defend its positions due to shortages of troops and weapons.
