Russian Airstrike Kills One in Ukraine

Russia launched a barrage of overnight airstrikes on Ukraine, killing at least one and damaging vital infrastructure, according to Ukrainian authorities on Thursday. 

Ukraine’s military reported that Russian forces fired 78 attack drones and six missiles across various regions during the extended assault.

Air defenses managed to intercept 66 drones and four missiles, reducing the potential damage.

In Odesa, a woman was killed by a missile strike, while eight others were injured in a guided-bomb attack on the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, as announced by Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko:

“One woman was killed in a missile strike on southern Ukraine’s Odesa and another eight people were wounded in a guided-bomb attack on the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia.”

In Kyiv, around a dozen drones were neutralized, but the aftermath left damage to 20 cars and a residential gas pipe, according to Serhiy Popko, head of the local military administration. 

Further west, parts of Ivano-Frankivsk suffered power outages after a Russian strike hit critical infrastructure, regional governor Svitlana Onyshchuk confirmed.

Power cuts also hit central Poltava and northern Chernihiv, alongside other frontline regions, following the attack, as reported by Ukraine’s national grid operator.

Later in the morning, Kyiv’s air force reported the launch of several hypersonic Kinzhal missiles, but no further details were provided.

Since the start of the invasion in February 2022, Russia has frequently deployed drones and missiles deep into Ukrainian territories, hitting cities far from the front lines.

While Russia continues to deny targeting civilians, it justifies strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure as legitimate military actions.
