Russian forces have launched a barrage of guided bombs on the city of Zaporizhzhia, leaving at least 16 people injured and causing widespread destruction, according to Ukrainian officials.
The strikes hit crucial infrastructure, including railways, residential blocks, and commercial areas.
Ivan Fedorov, governor of the Zaporizhzhia region, reported that Russian forces targeted three different districts in the city, deploying 13 guided bombs between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. local time.
Among the injured were two children, ages 8 and 17.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy took to Telegram to confirm the damage, stating, “Several residential buildings, the city’s infrastructure, and railways were damaged in the strikes.”
He also shared images from the scene, revealing burned-out cars, a gaping hole in a residential building, and emergency responders working to control fires.
The bombings forced train delays and diversions as crews worked to clear debris.

Moscow has yet to comment on the strikes, but guided bombs, known for their devastating power, are notably challenging for Ukrainian air defenses to intercept.
Zaporizhzhia, a key industrial and logistical hub, sits approximately 50 kilometers (30 miles) from the frontlines and has faced intensified Russian attacks in recent weeks.
Russian troops continue to control parts of the region, which also houses Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.
In a broader context, Zelenskiy highlighted that Russian forces have ramped up their attacks across Ukraine.
“This Russian terror knows no pause, and it can be stopped only by the unity of the world — unity to support Ukraine and unity to put pressure on Russia for the war,” he wrote on Telegram.
He revealed that in the last week alone, Russia launched nearly 900 guided bombs, over 300 Shahed drones, and more than 40 missiles targeting Ukrainian cities, towns, and villages.
While Moscow frequently denies targeting civilians, U.N. data shows thousands have died since Russia’s invasion in February 2022.
On Sunday, Russia’s defense ministry claimed its air defenses had downed 125 Ukrainian drones overnight, and a residential apartment was reportedly struck in the western city of Voronezh.
