Russian forces have initiated an assault on Vuhledar, an eastern Ukrainian town that has withstood attacks since the 2022 invasion, according to reports.
“Russian units have entered Vuhledar – the storm of the town has begun,” stated Yuri Podolyaka, a Ukrainian-born pro-Russian military blogger. Other pro-Russian bloggers also confirmed the offensive.
Russian state media reported that Vuhledar, a hilltop town in the Donetsk region often described as a fortress for its resistance, is now encircled by Russian forces, with ongoing battles in the eastern part of the settlement.

In August, Russian forces in eastern Ukraine advanced at their quickest pace in two years, according to various open-source maps.
This occurred even as a Ukrainian incursion into Russia’s Kursk region aimed to force Moscow to redirect its troops.
Ukraine’s general staff reported on Tuesday that Russian forces attempted to seize Ukrainian positions near Pavlivka and Vuhledar but provided no additional details. The Russian defense ministry has yet to comment.
