In a joint statement released over the weekend, the Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Mr. Olugbenga Oyerinde, and the Director-General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, reiterated the commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration to prioritizing the safety of lives and protecting citizens from potential hazards.
Oyerinde highlighted the urgency of alerting the public to the importance of safety consciousness, citing the substantial risks involved in transporting and handling combustible materials, fuels, chemicals, and other hazardous goods.
He stressed that such practices could lead to significant loss of lives, property, and legal consequences.
Director-General Mojola, in his comments, emphasized the immeasurable value of lives and announced the commencement of the ‘SAFETY FOR YOU’ campaign by the Lagos Safety Commission.

This campaign aims to raise awareness and promote proactive safety measures in personal, occupational, and business contexts. Mojola specifically addressed the potential dangers of stockpiling chemicals and combustibles, warning against the risk of explosions and fire outbreaks under extreme temperature and pressure conditions.
He urged Lagosians to prioritize safety, stating that, “When you see something, please say something. An injury to one is an injury to all.”
Mojola revealed that the Commission’s officers are actively inspecting locations to ensure safety, while also encouraging artisans and tradesmen to seek professional advice on handling and transporting combustible goods within the state.
The Director-General concluded by urging the public to report any stockpiles of dangerous goods by contacting 07000SAFETY or reaching out to the nearest security agencies.
The government’s proactive stance on safety underscores its commitment to preventing potential hazards and protecting the well-being of the residents of Lagos State.
