Pharaohs of Egypt striker, Mohamed Salah, was stretchered off in Liverpool’s hard-fought victory over Newcastle on Saturday with a head injury after a collision with Martin Dubravka in the second half.

Salah, who had scored in the Premier League encounter against Newcastle, Liverpool’s last match before the final match of the season next week, sought to challenge for a ball before he was inadvertently hit by Newcastle goalkeeper, Dubravka’s hip.

The incident was recorded in the 73rd minute, leading the Premier League highest goal scorer down on the turf for minutes before he was finally withdrawn through a stretcher.

With mounting fears by both fans Liverpool and Egypt as the Africa Nations Cup in June draws closer, Salah was replaced by Divock Origi who was able to break the heart of Magpies fans with a late winner.

Responding to questions about the injury after the match, Liverpool coach, Jurgen Klopp, said: “We have to see. He got a proper knock on the head and we have to make a proper assessment,” revealing, however, that the striker watched the rest of the match in the away side’s dressing room and seemed “OK”.

Liverpool started the match needing to win to go top of the table and pile pressure on Manchester City, whose match against Leicester comes up on Monday.

Liverpool’s first goal was scored by Virgil van Dijk, with Christian Atsu restoring parity for Newcastle back after just seven minutes.

Salah then grabbed his 22ng goal of the season to Liverpool back in front, going two clear over the Premier League goal boot chasing pack led by team-mate and fellow African, Sadio Mane and City’s Sergio Aguero who both have 20 goals each.

Salomon Rondon’s found equaliser in the 54th minute added another twist, leaving Liverpool’s title hopes hanging by a thread until Origi got to the end of a Xherdan for the winning goal.
