Eko Hot Blog reports that the Trade Union Congress on Thursday sealed up the properties of the Nigeria Agip Oil Company Limited in Port Harcourt.
The Union was protesting the sale and that of Eni Nigeria to Oando Plc.
This occurred in less than 48 hours after the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) threatened to withdraw its members from all offices and oil field locations if the sale is implemented.
The protesters who carried placards with various inscriptions expressed their displeasure about the motion and said the sale would affect thousands of indigenous workers if carried out.
Dr Eze Ifeanyi, representative of the union President, Festus Osifo, said the union would not allow the transfer of any worker to Oando without observation of due process.
He said, “They (NAOC) should look back, look at all our branches that are in support of this thing happening here today and what they can do when the time comes.”
The TUC Chairman in Rivers State, Ikechukwu Onyefuru, called on Governor Similnalayi Fubara to look into the matter so as to avert any likely labour crisis.
Onyefuru said the sale of Agip could lead to displacement of over 3000 indigenous workers, thereby causing more economic and labour crises.
