Samklef May Be Wrong To Sorely Blame Nollywood

Nollywood to be blamed for money rituals- Samklef

EKO HOT BLOG reports that legendary music producer, Samklef recently blamed the Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood, for the spate of ritual killings being experienced in the society.

Samklef had alleged on Twitter, that Nollywood promotes “fetish stuff in all their movies”.

The music producer further advised Nollywood to have better scripts, adding that everything is not “religion or juju”.

His tweets read, “These Igbo Nollywood, English and Yoruba movies are the reason why a lot of young boys are doing rituals. They keep promoting fetish stuff in all their movies. Nigerian movies producer can do better. Everything must not be based on juju and religion.”

Can Nollywood be sorely blamed?

Nollywood may have it’s own portion of blame in what goes on in the Nigeria system today, but it will be wrong to heap all the blames on the movie making industry. We have both movies and songs, forming a big chunk of entertainment contents.

Nollywood is just a trying to entertain people, but in the process, they also pass across messages in their contents, so can be said about other spheres of entertainment in Nigeria.

There was a time when Nigerians enjoyed watching movies, but now, Nigerians are being entertained by both movies and musical songs. What this means is that even the music, plays a role in shaping the society.

An analysis of the lyrics and videos of the songs people listen to today, will reveal that ,mostly what is sang about is making money at all cost, prostitution, love for material things and quick money. These types of songs are heard almost on a daily basis, and these in a large way, forms opinions in people’s minds.
