Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has appointed Hakeem Ogunniran as chairman Board of Directors Lagos Investment Co Plc (LBIC).
The appointment of Ogunniran was announced on Wednesday.
Before his appointment Ogunniran has a sterling record and impeccable reputation from working at executive positions of private companies.
Hakeem Ogunniran is a household name in the real estate industry.
In 2018 he launched his real estate company called EXIMIA Realty Company Limited which has as VISION: to become Africa’s Pacesetting property company by creating real value for its customers, its people, its communities and its investors. Eximia’s Misssion is to build future dreams today, through innovative, value-driven and customer focused real estate solutions.
Eximia is conceived as a real estate company that will ‘lead the world through Africa’. According to Ogunniran, the overall objective is to re-define the narrative by challenging the status quo and creating a unique and innovative platform to deliver real estate solutions in Nigeria and eventually Africa.
He also runs other business like Mercury Nominees and Investment Ltd and lead promoter of Kyrious Real Estate Co-Operative Society.
He was the Managing Director of UACN Property Development Co Plc – UPDC from .2010 – 2018. Before then, he was the Managing Director of MDS Logistics (Division of UAC of Nigeria PLC)between 2000 and 2010. Prior to 2000, he was at various times A Law Lecturer, Company Secretary/Legal Adviser, Sales/Marketing Manager, corporate Planning Manager, etc.
He graduated from University of Lagos with LL.B (Hons) Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in 1984. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1985 after passing the Bar Examinations at the Nigerian Law School; also with a Second Class Honours (Upper Division).
He later obtained the Masters of Law (LL.M) and MBA degrees from the University of Lagos. He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Adminlstrators. London and Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, UK.
A former Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the Yale Law School, USA, he has attended Several high level management training programmes including the Unilever(IMS), U.K (1196) General Management Programme (GMP) of Ashidge Management College, U.K.(2000), Strategic Leadership Programme of Cranfield University, U.K.(200S), REAL Estate Management Program of Harvard Business School (2010), USA and Senior Financial Management program of the London Business School(2014).
Ogunniran is also a past President and Chairman of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Arbitrators of Nigeria, (1998-2000), Council Member of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce.
He is a frequent speaker at international conferences including the Annual African Property Investment Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa and the African Real Estate Society Conference. He was the Lead Speaker for Africa at the 1st International Conference on Corporate Governance at Shanghai in May, 2010.
In the past 8 years, Ogunniran has changed the narrative of the real estate industry in Nigeria, leading his team to deliver landmark and iconic projects in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Ibadan and birthing projects in other cities including Asaba and Calabar. In the area of real estate funding, he led his company to raise over NSSBillion through bonds, bridging loans (Commercial Papers) and a DOT based Real Estate Investment Trust.
He has also played a major role in driving the African Real Estate Reform Agenda leading sessions at Accra, Cape Town, Johannesburg, London and Lagos.
He is a recipient of many awards including the Federal Government’s Scholarship for High Academic Standing (1981 – 1984), Fulbright Scholarship to Yale School USA (1991/1992) and many more. He is happily married to Dr Iyabode Ogunniran also a Lawyer They are blessed with three lovely children.
