Sanwo-Olu Encourages Journalists to Share Govt’s Achievements

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has urged journalists to serve as a vital link between the government and the people by effectively reporting on the state’s projects, policies, and achievements.

This, he believes, will keep the public informed and up-to-date on the government’s activities.

Represented by Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of public commentary in shaping the narrative and influencing the trajectory of the government.

He noted that public discourse across various platforms, including social media and print, has the power to drive change and accountability.

“I charge you to find a better way to showcase the state government’s programs,” Sanwo-Olu said. “Public commentaries are very important, and I think they help citizens know a lot about what the government is doing.”

The Governor highlighted the significance of showcasing the state government’s initiatives, particularly in sectors such as women’s affairs and poverty alleviation.

He emphasized that many training programs and facilities are available, but the public is not aware of them.

Earlier, NUJ President, Adeleye Ajayi, solicited the state government’s collaboration in the union’s upcoming delegate conference and nominated Sanwo-Olu as NUJ Lagos Chapter Grand Patron Award.

Ajayi acknowledged the significant progress made by the Sanwo/Hamzat administration in various sectors and proposed quarterly media engagements between the Governor and the media to promote the state government’s initiatives and policies.

Sanwo-Olu’s call to action emphasizes the crucial role journalists play in bridging the gap between the government and the people.

By effectively reporting on the state’s projects and policies, journalists can keep the public informed and promote accountability.
