Eko Hot Blog reports that Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, received delegates from the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) led by the Chair, Mr. Emmanuel Faber, at the Lagos House in Marina on Friday, March 22, 2024.
The meeting highlighted the state’s dedication to promoting sustainable practices and aligning with global standards.
During the visit, Governor Sanwo-Olu warmly welcomed the ISSB delegation, which included former Lagos State Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Rabiu Olowo, who currently serves as a member of the board. The governor expressed his appreciation for the ISSB’s efforts in establishing a comprehensive corporate reporting system focused on sustainability.
In a symbolic gesture, Governor Sanwo-Olu presented Mr. Faber with a state plaque and traditional Eyo plaques, underscoring the significance of the occasion and Lagos’ rich cultural heritage.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including the Commissioners for Finance, Mr. Abayomi Oluyomi, Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade & Investment, Mrs. Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, and Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogundele. Their presence highlighted the state’s commitment to integrating sustainable practices across various sectors and fostering a collaborative approach.
During the discussions, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized Lagos State’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development, aligning with the ISSB’s mission to promote transparency and accountability in sustainability reporting. He expressed his administration’s determination to leverage the ISSB’s expertise and guidance to implement robust sustainability standards and drive positive change within the state.
The ISSB Chair, Mr. Faber, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu’s leadership and the state’s proactive approach to addressing sustainability challenges. He emphasized the critical role that Lagos, as a major economic hub in Africa, plays in setting an example for sustainable practices and contributing to the global sustainable development agenda.
