Eko Hot Blog reports that Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commissioned the new headquarters of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) in GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.
The governor commissioned the building at an event on Tuesday, November 21, 2023.
The agency had been without a permanent office since it commenced operations on August 12, 2012.
However, LASBCA officially begun operating from its permanent office after Sanwo-Olu inaugurated it on Tuesday.
The event marked a significant step in the efforts to enhance the operational capacity and efficiency of LASBCA, which plays a crucial role in regulating construction activities and ensuring building compliance within the state.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the governor emphasized the importance of having a dedicated and functional office space for LASBCA.
“Equipped with cutting-edge technology and staffed by skilled professionals, the agency is well-equipped to ensure that construction activities adhere to the highest standards, contributing to the continued growth and safety of Lagos,” he said.
“The new LASBCA office will play a vital role in collaborating with stakeholders, developers, and citizens to create a beautiful, safe, and sustainable built environment. In a bustling city like Lagos, it is crucial to have strong mechanism to tackle the challenges of urbanisation.
“The building adds a whole lot of beauty to the area, and everyone needs to step up and make the most of the equipment and materials in this awesome place.
” Let us look ahead with excitement and determination, together we can make Lagos shine and be and example for other cities to follow.”
Sanwo-Olu added that it is so inspiring to see that the building was designed and supervised by LASBCA’s own staff, saying that it showed that local architects, engineers, and builders could create top-notch structure that stands the test of time.
“I also want to take a moment to remind everyone of the responsibility that comes with this privilege. Let’s all stay dedicated and committed to the agency’s goals and do our best to fulfill our mandates with excellence,” the governor stated.
He also encouraged Lagosians, especially those in the construction industry, to prioritise safety and avoid cutting corners, adding that cutting corners leads to building collapses, which is to be avoided.
Also speaking, the General Manager of LASBCA, Gbolahan Oki, said with this new office complex, the agency is equipped to serve the people of Lagos State even more effectively as it will serve as a hub for collaboration, innovation and excellence in building control practices.
According to him, this building demonstrates the agency’s ability to adequately perform its duties as specified by the law. He stated that their commitment to uphold the highest standard of construction and ensure compliance with regulations is further strengthened by this facility.
“To whom much is given, more is expected and in fulfillment of the enormous expectation arising from the provision of this gigantic and befitting office building, we promise to recommit ourselves to the mission of the agency which is to create a safe, sustainable and resilient built environment for all Lagosians,” Oki said.
The LASBCA headquarters commissioning reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to improve regulatory frameworks, enhance urban planning, and foster sustainable development across Lagos State.
The new office is expected to bolster LASBCA’s ability to regulate and monitor construction activities, ensuring the safety and compliance of structures within the state.
