In a social media post after his inspection tour, Gov. Sanwo-Olu stated: “It’s crucial to emphasize that the railway tracks are designated for transportation and not for commercial activities or as a market space.”

“The railway tracks are NOT a market place for you to display and sell your wares,” the governor warned.

Gov. Sanwo-Olu’s statement comes as Lagos prepares to commission its first operational rail line. There have been reports of individuals using the tracks to hawk goods at stations along the route.

The governor’s post serves as a stern reminder that commercial activities on the tracks pose safety risks and can disrupt rail operations. Security agencies are expected to enforce restrictions against unauthorized vending or displays on the rail lines.

Lagosians eagerly await the launch of the Red Line Rail service, which will connect Oyingbo to Agbado and ease traffic congestion. Gov. Sanwo-Olu’s inspection indicates preparations are in advanced stages for the historic inauguration.

But the governor emphasizes commerce and vending will be prohibited on the trains and tracks themselves. His social media warning makes clear the railway is solely for efficient transportation as Lagos expands its mass transit infrastructure.
