EKO HOT BLOG reports that this inaugural ride comes seven months after the rail infrastructure was completed and commissioned.
Governor Sanwo-Olu arrived at the station at 5:00 PM, greeted by jubilant members of the public invited to experience the ride.
He was accompanied by state cabinet members, lawmakers, corporate executives, journalists, and other attendees.
After announcing the boarding, the train service commenced, reaching Yaba Station four minutes later, where some passengers disembarked to connect with the Last Mile transport service.
The train made additional stops at Mushin before continuing to Oshodi and Ikeja, where Sanwo-Olu and his entourage disembarked. The entire journey from Oyingbo to Ikeja took 34 minutes.
Speaking to reporters at Ikeja Station, Sanwo-Olu described the ride as “smooth and outstanding,” highlighting the significant reduction in commuting time.
He stated, “This experience will help address public transportation issues in Lagos, improve connectivity, and reduce journey times for commuters. From Ikeja, the train will proceed to Agege before finally halting in Agbado.
The public can now see the advancements we’ve made in mass transportation. We have fulfilled our promises with the Red Line, just as we did with the Blue Line. Regular scheduled train services will commence tonight from Agbado to Oyingbo and back.”
The governor also revealed that the state expects additional rolling stock for the Red Line next year, which will further enhance the efficiency of the train service.
