Addressing residents of Lagos Island on Sunday, Sanwo-Olu expressed his dismay at the destruction of government properties designed to prevent such issues and warned of severe consequences for offenders.
In a video shared by TVC, the governor stated, “Manholes installed at strategic locations have been removed, and we see refuse being dumped into these drainage channels, blocking them completely. This is unacceptable, and it is a shame on those responsible. They do not deserve to be among us.”
“To destroy not only government properties, (but) manholes that will preserve and protect your environment from flood and environmental issues! What could be the commercial benefit that you’d waste and destroy such investments?
“So the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Works and Infrastructures are going to be setting up gangs and if by whatever means you are caught, there are huge consequences to it.”
The governor also inaugurated the re-introduction of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise campaign in Lagos State.
Sanwo-Olu called for the cooperation of all residents and stakeholders in making the exercise a success.
