Sanwo-Olu Reveals Number Of COVID-19 Deaths Recorded In One Week
- Governor Sanwo-Olu has revealed the number of COVID-19 deaths recorded in Lagos State in the last week.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has revealed that the state has been recording six COVID-19 deaths daily in the last week.
Governor Sanwo-Olu further disclosed that over 30 deaths have been recorded in Lagos State following the current third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
The governor made this known while giving an update on the third wave of the pandemic to newsmen in Lagos on Monday.
Sanwo-Olu, who said an average of six deaths was recorded per day in the last week, noted that the epidemiology update from the beginning of the outbreak in February 2020 to date showed that Lagos State recorded a total of 64,032 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
He disclosed that 56,336 have recovered, while 2,755 are currently being managed actively in Lagos State.
Governor Sanwo-Olu further revealed no fewer than 5,029 patients have been admitted into the various COVID-19 care centres in Lagos, adding that 390 fatalities were recorded.
The Lagos State Governor stated that the positivity rate of COVID-19 in the state has risen from 1.1 percent at the end of June 2021 to 7 percent at the end of July 2021, noting that as of August 1, 2021, the positivity rate in Lagos was 8.9 percent.

Sanwo-Olu added that the latest development has resulted in 4,300 confirmed cases in July 2021 and 352 admissions into the isolation facilities.
The governor, however, cautioned the residents of the state that the necessary sense of alarm should not be responded to with panic, but with a firm resolve and determination to reverse the trend.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Sanwo-Olu disclosed that the percentage of residents that have received two doses of the vaccine in the state stood at 1 percent as a total of 404,414 got the first dose while 243,374 got the second dose of the vaccine.
