Sanwo-Olu To Lead Procession To MKO Abiola’s Residence For June 12 Anniversary

June 12 of every year is set aside to commemorate the anniversary of the presumed election of the late MKO Abiola as president in 1993.

In 2018, former President Buhari declared June 12 as Democracy Day in honour of the late Abiola whose election was annulled.

Governor Sanwo-Olu is expected to deliver a keynote address at Abiola’s residence to commemorate the 2023 anniversary.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will join millions of Lagosians today (Monday) to celebrate June 12 Democracy Day in the state.
His Media Adviser, Gboyega Akosile, made the disclosure in a statement Sunday night.

According to Akosile, Sanwo-Olu will observe the 30th anniversary of the June 12, 1993, election believed widely to have been won by the Late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola.
“He will join leaders of pro-democracy groups and Civil Society Organisations to celebrate the acclaimed freest and fairest poll in the political history of Nigeria,” the governor’s spokesperson said.
He also revealed that Sanwo-Olu will deliver a Keynote Speech at the 30th Anniversary of June 12 organised by Alliance For Yoruba Democratically Movements, themed: “30 Years After June 12: Tactics and Strategy for Sustainable Democracy in the Future Years.”
