Sanwo-Olu emphasized that Lagos, being below sea level, necessitates clear drainage channels for water to flow smoothly. “Lagos is below the sea level,” he stated. “Those waters have to go and come back again.”

The governor revealed that during cleanup operations in areas like Obalende and Ijora, vital infrastructure, including bridges and rail lines, had been safeguarded from individuals who had illegally occupied these spaces and posed security risks to commuters.

Furthermore, Sanwo-Olu clarified that the demolition is not a deliberate attempt to seize people’s properties.

“We were not out to take anybody’s house down deliberately,” he asserted. “If it’s only one room that we need to take from the four-bedroom flat because it was built on the right of way, we take it and leave the remaining three rooms for you.”

Urging citizens to respect the law, the governor emphasized the need for joint efforts in maintaining a habitable environment. “We need to jointly respect the rules of our cohabitation,” he said. “That is what we are trying to do.”
