Sanwo-Olu’s Lagos Transformation Wins World Bank Accolades

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has received accolades from the World Bank for the transformative progress recorded in the state over the past five years.

The World Bank’s Country Director in Nigeria, Mr. Ndiama Diop, led a team of executives on a courtesy visit to the Governor at the State House in Marina, commending the state’s efforts in improving the quality of life for residents and upgrading infrastructure to boost socio-economic development.

Diop specifically praised the reforms in the transportation sector, which have expanded multimodal transportation capabilities in Lagos.

He highlighted the delivery of intracity rail infrastructure and investment in waterways, positioning the state’s economy for growth.

Diop said, “I commend the Lagos State Government under your leadership for transforming the transportation landscape, making it a model for modern cities. Your successes across various sectors are visible, catalyzing socio-economic development and growth.”

The World Bank offered collaboration and funding support to improve operational efficiency, particularly in areas where the state has experienced gaps.

Governor Sanwo-Olu welcomed the partnership, emphasizing the need for strategic support to enhance the transportation sector.

He highlighted the state’s investment in modern transportation infrastructure and the shift towards sustainable services reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

Sanwo-Olu called for collaboration on waste-to-energy, conservation, job creation, and skill development, stressing the pressure of rapid urbanization on the state’s infrastructure and economic system.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to sustainable economic prosperity through the THEMES+ agenda, intervening in governance aspects, and creating predictable public transportation systems.
