The tribunal, which is sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, heard arguments from counsel to the petitioners and respondents on Monday.

The petitioners, Dr. Olajide Adediran and Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, are challenging the election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adediran, who is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is alleging that Sanwo-Olu did not have the requisite educational qualifications to contest the election.

Rhodes-Vivour, who is the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), is alleging that the election was marred by irregularities.

On Monday, counsel to the petitioners presented evidence to support their claims.

Adediran’s counsel, Clement Onwuenwunor, SAN, presented a printout from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) result verification portal, which showed that Sanwo-Olu did not have a WAEC certificate.

Rhodes-Vivour’s counsel, I.O. Benson, SAN, presented evidence of alleged irregularities, including the fact that some polling units were not opened on election day.

Counsel to the respondents, led by Muiz Banire, SAN, argued that the petitioners had not presented enough evidence to prove their case.

They also argued that the petitioners were not qualified to challenge the election because they did not participate in the election.

The tribunal adjourned till June 21 for continuation of hearing.
