Despite joining Roma in 2021, Mourinho has reportedly been having disputes over transfers and facing frustration over the team’s performances this season, leading to uncertainty about his future at the Italian club. Top management in Saudi Arabia has seized the opportunity and directly approached the 60-year-old Portuguese to lead their national football team.
As per the Italian sports newspaper Corriere dello Sport, the deal proposed to Mourinho comprises a salary of £52 million (€60m) per year and two options, which will enable Mourinho to either end the contract at the conclusion of the first season or extend it until 2026 – the year of the North American World Cup.
If Mourinho accepts the proposal, he will become the highest-paid manager in history, surpassing the current record held by Pep Guardiola, who reportedly earns £20 million per year at Manchester City.
