Scholars Celebrate Rev Professor Ogunmodede’s Legacy at Augustine University
Eko hot blog reports that Augustine University, Ilara-Epe, Lagos State, hosted a distinguished gathering of academics and scholars at an International Conference on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, in honor of Rev. Msgr. Professor Francis Ishola Ogunmodede.
The celebrated academic and clergyman, a Board of Trustees Member of the institution, was recognized for his immense contributions to academia and the Church.
The conference, held at the university’s Convocation Hall, featured thought-provoking intellectual discussions and celebrated Professor Ogunmodede’s legacy as a scholar and spiritual leader.

In his welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Christopher Odetunde, described the honoree as “a scholar par excellence and a spiritual father whose dedication to Augustine University has greatly shaped its growth and development.”
He further remarked that Rev. Msgr. Ogunmodede’s life exemplifies the synergy between intellectual pursuit and spiritual guidance.
The keynote address, delivered by Professor Wale Olajide, offered an in-depth exploration of the conference theme, sparking profound intellectual discourse.
“Professor Ogunmodede’s legacy reminds us of the essential blend of faith, philosophy, and academic rigor in building institutions and individuals,” Professor Olajide noted.
A lead paper presentation by Rev. Professor Mark Ikeke further delved into the conference theme, offering compelling reflections.
“We must continue to integrate ethics, philosophy, and spirituality into modern academia to foster holistic development in society,” Rev. Prof. Ikeke stated, earning a standing ovation from the audience.
The event also featured a dynamic roundtable discussion with panelists including Dr. Okorie and Dr. Oladosu of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and Dr. Victoria Akoleowo of the University of Ibadan.
Parallel sessions allowed participants to engage deeply with various sub-themes, enriching the academic experience.
In his closing remarks, Rev. Msgr. Professor Ogunmodede expressed deep gratitude to the university and participants.
“This gathering is not just a celebration of my work but an affirmation of the critical role intellectual collaboration plays in advancing knowledge and faith,” he said.
The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, led by Dr. Philip Edema, organized the conference.
Dr. Edema highlighted the importance of such events in fostering intellectual growth and collaboration, saying: “This conference underscores the university’s commitment to creating platforms where minds converge to tackle global issues through informed perspectives.”
