Schoolgirl Escapes From Kidnappers in Iraye, Epe

Tension gripped the Iraye community in Epe on Friday after a young schoolgirl narrowly escaped an attempted kidnap by unidentified men. The incident, which occurred in the afternoon hours, has left residents in shock and sparked renewed concerns about security in the area.
Ekohotblog gathers that according to eyewitnesses and the victim’s account, the girl was returning from school when she was accosted by two men who quickly overpowered her and stuffed her into a sack. The suspects were reportedly attempting to flee with the girl when fate intervened.

While narrating her ordeal, the young girl, whose identity is being withheld for safety reasons, said: “I was walking home alone when two men came out from behind a bush. They grabbed me and put me inside a sack. I was so scared, I couldn’t scream. But as they were moving, we saw a soldier coming, and they dropped me and ran away.”
It was gathered that the presence of the soldier, who was on patrol around the area, may have disrupted the plans of the kidnappers. The soldier, upon noticing the suspicious movement and abandoned sack, quickly raised an alarm, leading to the girl’s rescue.
Local residents rushed to the scene to assist and later escorted the girl to safety. Community leaders have since urged parents to be extra vigilant, especially concerning children who trek to and from school.
