Schools’ Resumption: FG Speaks On Students Taking COVID-19 Test

• Schools should refrain from asking students or parents to undergo COVID-19 test

The federal government says there’s no need for students returning to school to run the COVID-19 test to ascertain their status before joining their contemporaries.

The spokesman for Federal Ministry of Education, Ben Goong, made the disclosure in an interview with NAN in Abuja.

He implored schools to desist from directing students and parents to take the test.

“School authorities should therefore refrain from asking students or parents to undergo COVID-19 test before they are accepted in their schools,” he said.

Goong advised that temperature checks be carried out on students and any other persons before being let into school premises.

Ekohotblog reported on Monday how the committee on basic education at the  house of Representatives had excoriated the Federal government’s over its decision to reopen schools nationwide on Monday.

The committee suggested a three-month recess for schools across the country, to monitor the Covid-19 numbers and infection rates while safety measures were put in place.

In its resolution on Sunday, the committee averred that less than 10 percent of educational institutions across the country have safety protocols to limit the spread of the virus.

The Federal Government had insisted on January 18 as the mandatory resumption date for schools despite alarming increase in COVID-19 cases  in the past weeks as the second wave continues to wreak havoc in the country.
