The Lagos State Waste Management Agency (LAWMA), has taken a lot of measures to help curtail the spread of coronavirus in the country.
In its findings, Ekohotblog lists below some of the actions taken by the agency in the fight against COVID-19.
The purchase and distribution of 10,000 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to LAWMA operatives, PSP operatives and street sweepers which included: Safety goggles, Nose masks, Hand gloves, Safety boots, Hazmat suits, Hand sanitizers.
The agency, in keeping to the social distancing directive, stopped scavengers from working on all dumpsites.
LAWMA embarked on fumigation of all dumpsites and depots, as well as provide personal hygiene products to LAWMA operatives, PSP operatives and street sweepers such as antiseptic bar soaps and hand wash liquids.

This was also followed by the creation of disinfectant bays for the cleaning of trucks and operational vehicles.
In addition and in response to concerns about exposure of some waste handlers servicing hospitals, today we have commenced testing (in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Health) of high-risk operatives.
According to the Agency, the concerned PSP operators will be contacted directly.
When Ekohotblog visited some parts of Lagos State, our reporter noticed that the areas visited are clean as some LAWMA trucks, were seen attending to the waste of residents.
Another visit to the Olusosun dumpsite also revealed several waste trucks were seen coming in and out of the dumpsite either to discharge or have already discharged their wastes.
This is a far cry from the days of Visionscape when dirt overran the state and Lagosians cried for the return of LAWMA and the PSPs.
